Past continuous
5 Read the table. Find examples in the text.
We use the past continuous to talk about actions in
progress at a certain time in the past.
Form: was/were + main verb + -ing
AFFIRMATIVE
I was travelling .
You were travell ing.
He/She/It was travelling.
We/You/They were travelling.
Time expressions used with the past continuous:
while, when, as, all day/morning/year, etc, at 8 o’clock
yesterday morning, etc.
Spelling:
ñ verb + -ing talk – talk ing
ñ verb -e + -ing make – making
ñ one-syllable verb ending in vowel + consonant ➝
double consonant + -ing swim – swimming
ñ a stressed vowel between two consonants ➝ double
consonant + -ing begin – begin ning
