Read the following extract from a story and put the
adjectives into the correct order, then cover the text and
try to describe the suitcase in the picture.
As I entered the house I heard people laughing in the living
room. A(n)

Each corner of the suitcase was covered by a

patch, which was fastened by

The following adjectives describe objects. Use them to
complete the table, as in the example.
Describing Objects
• When you describe objects you can use a variety of
adjectives. You should bear in mind the following order:
Instead of saying
“He was holding a box”
we can say
“He
was holding a beautiful, heart-shaped, velvet box”
.
We do
not normally use more than three adjectives to describe a
noun.
• We can add more information in a prepositional phrase
after the noun.
e.g. It was a beautiful, heart-shaped, velvet
box
with a red ribbon on it
